Keeping Discus

Discus require very high water quality and I recommend water purification (reverse osmosis & deionization). They require warm water 84 f to 88f. An established biological filtration system prior to introduction to the aquarium. Large broad leafed plants for comfort and shelter whem desired.

Use Discus specific frozen foods, supplemented occasionally with frozen brine and mysis shrimp and shredded frozen krill ... keep them hungry but don't starve them. A hungry discus is a healthy Discus. Preferably keep the aquarium a Discus only tank. Introductions of new fishes should be limited to small to medium Angelfishes, Neon tetra's or Kribensis .... purchase all of your fish and supplies from ONE reliable source.

Do not shop around for bargains .... buying cheap fish is like buying bald tires .... and most often the only bargain will be some free diseases that come along with the cheap fish. Maintain a small quarantine tank for sick or new fish but avoid introducing new fishes if possible. Make up your mind from the onset what you want and add your Discus all at once. Water changes using RO water should be made often .... 10% water changes weekly are better then 40% monthly.
